40 Days of Purpose: Worship that Pleases God

God wants us to worship Him and He loves when we want to worship Him. But there is a wrong way to worship so today we find the way to worship that pleases God.

There are four parts to worship that pleases God: accuracy, authenticity, thoughtfulness and practicality.

ACCURATE WORSHIP

When we worship correctly, God is pleased. We may not realise it, but sometimes, our worship is not based on scriptural truth. To please God, we need to devote time to learning about Him and studying His Word so that we can worship in truth.

AUTHENTIC WORSHIP

God wants us to be honest with Him. He wants us to come to Him regardless of our feelings because that’s what makes worship genuine.

When we worship what we say needs to have meaning. If we don’t mean it then why do we say it? God knows when our worship is insincere. He knows what we feel He just wants us to express our feelings to Him. God can handle our feelings and He would rather we worshipped genuinely than insincerely. He wants our imperfect worship.

THOUGHTFUL WORSHIP

Mindless worship is meaningless. What is the point of worshipping when we aren’t thinking of the one whom we are worshipping?

God doesn’t want our vague prayers or words of praise. He wants us to get specific and be creative in our worship. In fact, it pleases God when we do change it up because using the creativity He gave us is worship too.

Worship is thoughtful because we keep our focus on God and that requires effort. If your worship is mindless you need to think about what you are actually worshipping because it’s not God.

PRACTICAL WORSHIP

We know worship is a lifestyle that needs to be rooted in truth, genuine and thoughtful. We know it pleases God when we live this way because God wants us to live for Him.

When we live for God we offer our lives to Him. That means sacrificing things in pursuit of the life He calls us to live. God is pleased with our sacrifices of worship and such sacrifices include prayer (Psalm 141:2), praise (Psalm 54:6, Hebrews 13:15), gratitude (Psalm 50:14), repentance and humility (Psalm 51:17); also helping others, sharing possessions and financial offerings (Hebrews 13:16, Philippians 4:18),

Such worship pleases God but more important than any sacrifice is that we love God and others (Mk 12:33).

Now we know the way to worship that pleases God there is no excuse for not pleasing Him. Please share this post with someone you know needs this truth.
