40 Days of Purpose: Use What God Has Given You

Do you make the most of what you have? God expects us to. In every situation He wants us to use what we have. He doesn’t want us to wait until we are ready or until we have more. He has given us we all need to serve Him.

KEY VERSE

Most of what we need to serve God is within us. It is our skills and how we are shaped through the events of life.

DISCOVER YOUR SHAPE

We unlock what we need to serve God by assessing our capabilities. What we are good at is a sign of how and where we should serve. Our gifts and abilities will be confirmed by others so consider asking people who know you for their opinion. It may be that our gifts and abilities have already been confirmed through previous successes. The best way to discover our gifts and abilities is to experiment, try new things and new ways of serving.

What we enjoy must also be considered. God wants us to serve in areas that are aligned with our passions and interests. What makes us feel alive?

Our personality is part of our shape too. It affects how we serve. Our introversion or extroversion plays a huge role in how and where we serve. Whether we feel deeply or think more, or competitiveness all affect our service. Our personality determines the area of service we are most suited to while our heart drives us to serve in these areas.

Everything we have faced, every lesson we have learned leads us to where and how we are meant to serve. God wants us to use what we’ve learned to help others.

ACCEPT AND ENJOY YOUR SHAPE

We need to accept we are created with intention and trust that God knows what’s best for us. Who are we to question the Creator? We must recognise our limitations and not step over the boundaries God has placed on our lives.

We can be tempted to compare ourselves and conform to society. But we were created to stand out. Everyone of us was designed to be different. Conforming and comparison only steals our joy. The truth is if we let ourselves compare, we will either be filled with pride or think ourselves worthless become someone is better than us. There will always be someone better than us, but we were not made to be them, we were designed to be us.

God’s validation is all we need. People will criticize and not understand but we must remain firm in our faith and be obedient to Him.

KEEP DEVELOPING YOUR SHAPE

To be more effective in service we must keep developing our gifts and abilities. We must not allow ourselves to stagnate. If we don’t use our abilities and gifts, we will lose them (Matthew 25:28). If we want to please God, we should not neglect our gifts and abilities (1 Timothy 4:14-15) but take advantage of every opportunity to practise them in service.

Our development is important because this life is practise for Heaven. We practise serving here so that we are ready to serve there.

God created us with purpose. We were crafted with the gifts and abilities we need to serve Him here on earth and when we reach Heaven. He shaped us through our experiences – the good and the bad. He gave us everything we need – our hopes, our passions, the desire to love. All in order to glorify Him.
