God is the reason we exist. He is the reason we have breath in our lungs and food to eat. This world and everything in it would not exist without Him.
The very air we breathe is made with precision. It contains the exact elements to sustain us, a little more or less and there would be no humans on earth. That’s no coincidence! Everything exists for His glory.

“For everything comes from God alone. Everything lives by his power, and everything is for his glory.” Romans 11:36 LB
WHAT IS GOD’S GLORY?
God’s glory is who He is. The expression of His qualities like His goodness and mercy. His glory can be expressed in the form of fire (Exodus 24:17), smoke (Isaiah 6:3-4) and light (Isaiah 60:1). These are just some of the forms through which God has revealed His glory.
His glory can also be felt through His presence and power. It can be seen in His radiance and importance. It is His essence.
“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the expanse proclaims the work of his hands.” Psalm 19:1 CSB
God’s glory is everywhere. Everything He created reflects His glory. The best example of His glory is Jesus.
“The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact expression of his nature, sustaining all things by his powerful word.” Hebrews 1:3 CSB
In Jesus we are better able to comprehend God’s glory because Jesus was fully human as well as fully divine. Jesus’ character is God’s character so we study Jesus to better understand God the Father.
WHY SHOULD WE GLORIFY GOD?
We owe Him everything.
“Our Lord and God, you are worthy to receive glory and honour and power, because you have created all things, and by your will they exist and were created.” Revelation 4:11 CSB
We are who we are because of Him. We are nothing without Him. To bring God glory is our greatest purpose. Our greatest achievement. It is what we were created to do.
Yet we are human and sinful. Along with the fallen angels we are the only creations of God to fail to bring Him glory (Romans 3:23). To not glorify God is our biggest mistake.
“Everyone who bears my name and is created for my glory. I have formed them; indeed, I have made them.” Isaiah 40:7
God gave us free will to choose and we can choose to glorify Him or not. The choice is simple.
Those who walk with God are commanded to bring Him glory.
“Declare his glory among the nations, his wondrous works among all the people.” 1 Chronicles 16:24
We are told to recognise His glory, to live in it and reflect on it. We must praise, honour and declare His glory.
HOW DO WE GLORIFY GOD?
We glorify God by following Jesus’ example. We fulfil the purpose God has given us.
“I have glorified you on the earth by completing the work you gave me to do.” John 17:4 CSB
There are many ways we can glorify God and these are summed up in the five purposes of life which have been mentioned in previous posts.
WORSHIP
This is our first responsibility to God. We do this by enjoying Him. When we worship we should be motivated by love, gratitude and delight. We should not worship because we think we have to, it should be a joy.
Worship is a lifestyle dedicated to knowing God, loving God and giving ourselves to His purpose.
“And do not offer any parts of it to sin as weapons for unrighteousness. But as those who are alive from the dead. Offer yourselves to God, and all the parts of yourselves to God as weapons for righteousness.” Romans 6:13 CSB
FELLOWSHIP
We glorify God when we love others as He loves us. He wants us to be part of His family and on earth that means spending time with other believers.
“I give you a new command: Love on another. Just as I have love you, you are also to love one another.” John 13:34 CSB
It is our responsibility to learn how to love others as God loves us because it brings Him glory.
DISCIPLESHIP
Growing in faith honours God and it shows our respect and love for His Word. Becoming more like Jesus glorifies Him so we should strive to think, feel and act more like him.
“My Father is glorified by this: that you produce much fruit and prove to be my disciples.” John 15:8 CSB
MINISTRY
We glorify God when use the gifts and skills He gave us for the good of others.
“Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve others as good stewards of the varied grace of God.” 1 Peter 4:10 CSB
OUTREACH
We show love to God and others when we share the truth of God. We bring glory to Him when we declare the truth.
“Then he said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all of creation.” Mark 16:15 CSB
We face a crossroads just as Jesus did: to fulfil our purpose and bring God glory or choose a comfortable self-centred life.
“Father, save me from this hour? But that is why I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.” John 12:27-28 CSB
The way to bring God glory in this life is to let go of the life we think we want and submit to the life God has designed for us (John 12:25). God’s way is the only way to truly live every other way is an existence with no real meaning.
“His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” 2 Peter 1:3
God has given us everything we need to live life according to His ways and purposes. We just need to believe that He created us with purpose and receive Jesus as Lord and Saviour. God is faithful to forgive those who come to Him in humble repentance, even the worst of sinners.
“The one who believes in the Son has eternal life, but the one who rejects the Son will not see life; instead, the wrath of God remains on him.” John 3:36
Our life is not our own, it is God’s. We were created by God for His enjoyment and purpose, and we live to fulfil those purposes and love Him. We do this all for His glory.
