It’s a word that’s been coming to mind recently. It’s come to me gently as a reminder that all things change and I’m in the position where a chapter is ending and a new one is about to begin. I have been slapped with it in the form of conviction. A harsh reminder that my priorities are wrong. It’s been tossed around by friends and colleagues in the same position as me, at the end of an era with no clarity.
I don’t believe it’s a coincidence that this word keeps coming to mind. It’s too much of a coincidence for it to be happening at this moment in time. I believe it’s God’s way of getting through to me.
If I’m honest I haven’t been listening as much as I should. At least not to God anyway. I have been lost in my doubts and anxieties forgetting to turn to the one who can help. The one who wants to help. My relationship with God has been more of a one-way conversation lately. I’ve been laying my burdens at His feet and not staying long enough to listen to what He has to say.
CHOOSE.
My priorities have shifted away from God and this is a reminder and a warning to make Him the priority again.
I am grateful that God speaks to us in different ways even if it is with the harshness of conviction. Sometimes that’s exactly what we need in order for us to listen.
I have a feeling that God may be speaking to you too. Maybe you are also at a crossroads in your life facing a difficult choice. Perhaps you simply need to choose God and surrender to Him. Regardless of your circumstances or the choices you may be facing there is one choice that should be certain and that is God. He should be our priority, not a second thought. We are to have no idols that take us away from Him.
I would encourage you to take some time and reflect on the word Choose. In doing so you may find yourself realising the steps you need to take. Or like me you’ll realise despite all the choices you face the one that really matters is to choose God first.
This message may not even be for you at all. But I believe in one way or another it is a reminder we all need. Every day we face choices of little or great consequence, every word we speak or action we take is ultimately a choice. Even the smallest of these choices make an impact. I would encourage you to pray for wisdom that you may make every choice wisely.
The truth is that the choices we make can change our lives especially the choice to follow the path that God has designed for us and develop a relationship with Him.
If this post has helped you in any way please let me know. If it has encouraged you or reminded you of the power of choice please share it with someone you know who needs to hear this message. I end this post with a reflection from my journal inspired by choices.
Faced with so many choices
I don’t know where to turn.
My feelings are in turmoil,
My mind about to blow.
Lost in possibility
I only dream of clarity.
All doors to close
Except for one
Where I’m meant to be.
Drowning in opportunity
Doesn’t feel like it’s supposed to
Chained down by freedom
Held back by hope.
With so many paths
Can there be
A point where we say
Too much choice have we?
