Seeing Life Through God’s Eyes: A Reflective Journey

I recently rewatched The Prince of Egypt, which is truly one of the greatest movies ever. And as I was watching, it came to the scene where Moses arrives in Midian after fleeing Egypt and is welcomed by Jethro, the high priest of Midian. That night, Moses is the guest of honour because he saved Jethro’s daughters, and during this scene, Jethro starts singing Through Heaven’s Eyes. The song inspired me, and by the time the movie ended, I couldn’t shake this one thought – What do I see when I look at life through God’s eyes?

So I wrote about it, and what I wrote I will share with you now.

When I look at life through God’s eyes, I see that it is a gift. We were created to experience the fullest of life here on earth. To witness the beauty of the world, to hear the music of nature and smell the fragrance of the flowers, to taste the food God has provided and feel the ground beneath our feet.

But we often fall short and sin. We forget and make mistakes. We are flawed, I am flawed. Yet even in brokenness there is beauty, in sorrow there is hope, and in death there is life.

I look at my life now and know I am far from perfect, that things need to change, and I cannot do it alone. It is only because of Jesus that I have hope, and by the Holy Spirit I am renewed. The Word of God teaches me how to live and comforts me with stories of those who have walked this path before me.

I often feel lost, but the Spirit is my guide, leading me through life’s chaos one day at a time. I often feel alone, but God reminds me I am chosen, I am loved, and I have a purpose in this world.

What do I see when I look at life through God’s eyes? I see loss, pain, suffering and tears. I see laughter, joy, gratitude and peace. Through it all, I see God moving – comforting, providing, forgiving, befriending, convicting, leading, reminding and empathising. God loves us all, every person on earth. The lost and the broken, the violent and insecure. The faithful and patient, the rich and the poor.

When I look at life through God’s eyes, I see everyone belongs and our God who loves us and wants us to come home.

Have you ever thought about what life looks like through God’s eyes? I will admit I have, but I often lose sight of it and constantly need to be reminded. It’s one of the reasons it is so important to read the bible and watch Christians movies because we do forget so easily. I hope this post has shifted your perspective on life.
