Why ‘The Purpose Driven Life’ is a Must-Read for Everyone

If you’ve seen any of my posts this year you might have noticed they have a recurring theme – 40 days of purpose. These posts contain the highlights of each chapter in Rick Warren’s ‘The Purpose Driven Life.’ It took me well over 40 days to finish this book, I had started with good intentions to stick to it but like most habits it fell apart two weeks in. But the importance lies in content not timing. Although I can understand the marketing appeal of 40 days of purpose.

Before I picked up this book I had never heard of Rick Warren or Saddleback Church. But I had heard of ‘The Purpose Driven Life’ and I may have been slightly influenced to buy it because of who I’d heard mention it.

I am thankful I decided to buy this book, and I now understand why it’s considered a must read for Christians.

The Bible is a non-negotiable read but reading ‘The Purpose Driven Life’ helped me to understand the bible better and how to apply it in my life. This book provides clarity on our purpose and goes into detail about why we were created and what we should do with our lives.

I’ve heard some say this book is life changing and I can see why they would say it but personally it’s not had the life changing effect for me. That would be because I haven’t really put what I’ve learned into action I’ve been too busy writing about it and procrastinating. I have at times managed to put some of what I’ve learned into action and have the intention of making it a habit in my life I’ve just not gotten around to it and no excuse to have not done it already.

Honestly, to read this book and not live it out almost feels like an insult to Rick who spent so much time writing this book to help people. I am thankful for ‘The Purpose Driven Life’ because it really has opened my eyes to my purpose and reason for being. I understand now the role that differences play and the importance of our uniqueness. It’s a comfort to truly understand that nothing is an accident, God has considered everything even the things we would think He hasn’t.

I would say more but honestly you need to read this book yourself. I may have written posts with the key points and verses, but it is nothing compared to reading it yourself. There are questions for reflection at the end of each chapter and an additional audio message for those who want a little extra.

I highly recommend this book to anyone, Christian or not, because it is truly enlightening and can help you to better understand why you are the way you are and why some things happen.

This post concludes the end of all posts related to ‘The Purpose Driven Life’ and its 40 days of purpose but if you’d like to see more of my content sign up to the mailing list or follow me on social media.
